How do you charge for services?

Michael Sharp, MD, PA is a fee-for-service practice, and our patients are asked to pay in full at time of service.    Fees are based on a flat hourly rate, so charges will depend on the amount of time Dr. Sharp spends with the patient or on the patient’s behalf, including telephone and email consultations, medical record reviews and preparation of written documents and refilling of prescriptions. 

Can you bill my insurance?

Dr. Sharp does not participate as a network provider in any insurance plans.   However many patients can receive reimbursement for Dr. Sharp's services under their out-of-network benefits.  We understand that navigating the insurance claims process can be intimidating and we are experienced at helping patients understand the benefits offered by their plans and preparing claims.  You can find out about your out-of-network benefits by calling the Customer Service telephone number given on your insurance card.   Or call us at (919) 945-0300 if you have questions about this process.

We encourage you to work with your employer to develop either a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Healthcare Reimbursement Account (HRA), as further savings on out-of-pocket expenses associated with holistic health care can be realized through these plans.  Nutritional supplements, for example, are not generally covered by insurance plans, however your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Heathcare Reimbursement Account (HCA) likely can save you money on supplement costs.  We will work with you to provide documentation necessary for reimbursement.

Missed Appointments

We appreciate that unexpected disruptions of schedules occur, and excuse one missed appointment per year. Beyond that, we charge for missed appointments. We consider a missed appointment to be one that was canceled with less than 48 hours prior notice.

Confidentiality

We comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Act guidelines. We provide a HIPAA-compliant patient portal through this website which allows us to communicate more securely than through e-mail.  Patients are able to direct questions to Kathleen, our administrator, and directly to Dr. Sharp through password-protected secure accounts. We also provide access to all test results through this portal and you can request prescription refills and appointments as well.

We do not speak to other people, doctors or professionals about your care without your specific permission.
